The UK restaurant scene is buzzing with influences from around the world. Rice based restaurant eating accounts for 21 per cent of all restaurants in the UK – with Indian food being the most popular, followed by pizza then Chinese.

Of cities with more than 1000 restaurants, Leicester and Birmingham have the highest proportion of Indian restaurants.  Glasgow and Newcastle are top for Chinese – Glasgow has twice as many Chinese restaurants as Edinburgh. Tyneside and Manchester prefer Italian with genteel Edinburgh topping the Café charts!

In London alone there are more than 120 different restaurant cuisines. London also has nine times more restaurants than any other UK city.
